Membership categories

As you progress through the stages of training, there is a path for you.

Professional

(18 years and over) 

  • Teachers with a degree/diploma in music from a recognised tertiary institution that includes music related pedagogical training.

  • Teachers of music without formal qualifications with at least five years’ experience with documented results, evidence of ongoing professional development, and employment references.

  • Teachers of music who have complete a course accepted by the QMTA for Accreditation, which has the equivalent credentials to a music degree with pedagogical training e.g. AMEB CTMusA.

To support your application for professional membership, please supply references from current or past employees; professional colleagues; and/or students or parents of students.

Associate

(18 years and over) 

  • Teachers who have completed a degree/diploma in music from a recognised tertiary institution that does not contain music related pedagogical training.

  • Teachers of music in the process of accumulating at least five years’ experience with documented results, and who is in the process of working towards Professional Membership.

Student

(16 years and over)

  • Student of music in the process of obtaining a degree/diploma from a recognised tertiary institution, and who is in the process working towards Associate/Professional Membership AND/OR

  • Student of music who can provide a letter of support from a recognised Teacher AND/OR

  • Can provide evidence (certified award or performance video), confirming playing ability in their chosen music field

INDIVIDUAL/JOURNAL SUBSCRIBER

This category is for subscriptions to the QMTA Journal, Bravura.  The journal contains association, branch and regional news, information about professional development, upcoming events, and recitals. If required, a printed copy is provided.

GROUP SUBSCRIBER

For schools, businesses or any other organisation, if that organisation is interested in the objectives of the association. A Group Subscriber will receive a copy of the association journal, auditorium hire and attendance at professional development events for four teachers at members prices.

Please note

  • Fees are due on the 1st of Jan each year.

  • Pro-rata fees apply when joining during the year.

  • The journal is in either digital or print format. For members, a small fee also applies for the print journal.

  • Performance certificates alone are not sufficient for Professional Membership.
