Our QMTA Incorporated Biloela Branch was originally formed in 1992 by a group of enthusiastic and dedicated teachers from Biloela and surrounding areas, with some being members of our Teacher Group Committee today.
Local cultural activities such as the annual eisteddfod, musicals and concerts will undoubtedly include some of our members and members' students.
Our small but active Teacher Group Committee organises workshops/masterclasses with key music educators, performances for local music students, and fund-raising activities. Music tuition offered by our members covers a range of instruments including voice. We also encourage and organize graded assessments though the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) in August/September each year.
We enjoy getting together for a meeting once a term, with a Christmas dinner at the end of the year.
2015 saw the Biloela Eisteddfod Society celebrate their 50th Anniversary. It was a week-long event, often followed by workshops or masterclasses, and culminated with a Highlights Concert. Our Teacher Group Committee offers two $100 Awards each year at the Biloela Eisteddfod, one being an Encouragement Award for a performer in the woodwind or brass sections, and the other for a Promising Pianist/String Player.
The Branch hosts three student recitals in March, June and November and the Sight Reading Tournament in May. This gives students the opportunity for performance without the pressure of being a competition. The annual Sight Reading Tournament is sponsored by the AMEB [Australian Music Examinations Board] and many entrants return each year. The focus for this is to promote the skill of sight reading in an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment.
Two referral officers deal with enquiries from those looking for a music teacher. Members keep them informed if they have vacancies. This year they are Margery [tel. 4779 0382] and Jeanine [4772 2287].
